The National Institute

This past weekend, The National Institute held its winter module course, “Counseling and Communicating with Contemporary Youth”.

The group of 35 college students met at the Russell Center on Friday morning to hear Pastor Bruce Barlow share about biblical counseling and on specific topics like working with families of divorce, and dealing with rebellious teens. The rest of the module was graciously hosted by Northwest Chapel in Dublin, Ohio, with Pastor Shannon Hollinger (CE National Board of Directors member) serving as the main contact and setting everything up for us. Pastor Mark Artrip did a fine job sharing on communication later that evening.

Saturday morning began with a three hour session from Tim Stauffer, a counselor who is finishing doctoral work at Regents University on same sex attraction and gender dysphoria.

After lunch, Judy Zircher shared on abstinence education, and Sarah Knepper finished the afternoon with a tremendous session on inductive Bible study.

After dinner at City Barbecue (students gave this a “two thumbs up” review) the group went to Vineyard Church for the Saturday night service to view their communication, followed by Easton Mall for a little time off.

Sunday was busy with visits to three church services: Movement Church at 9 a.m., then middle school ministries and church at Grace Fellowship in Pickerington (Keith Minier, pastor). Each student prepared and delivered a youth talk that evening to finish off a busy and enjoyable day.

Monday morning the module finished with three hours on how to plan, speak, and preach from Keith Minier. The drive home was uneventful and then Christmas vacation began!

The TNI program is grateful to be able to not just teach, but to equip students to make a difference in the lives of others. Special thanks to all our guest presenters and making this one of the strongest modules in the history of the TNI program!
