Youth workers from all over the U.S. gathered at El Caribe Resort & Conference Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, March 19-22, 2018, for CE National’s National Youth Worker Retreat and had a great times of teaching, sharing, and fellowship.

Jordan Howerton, Momentum Youth Conference worship leader, kicked off the retreat Monday night with a time of praise and worship. Throughout the week Bruce Barlow, lead pastor of Winona Lake (Indiana) Grace Brethren Church, led very practical sessions on helping students whose parents fight and divorce, with gender identity issues, and students dealing with depression. Timothy Kurtaneck (TK), on staff with CE National, helped youth workers understand Generation Z. Joel Hawthorne, CE National board member, talked about ministry from a business perspective, and Ed Short, church-staff consultant for CE National, discussed how youth workers are doing spiritually. Ed Lewis, CE National president, talked through the book Growing Young in small groups.
The Atlantic ocean setting lent itself to good conversation between youth workers and unwinding from the stress of day-to-day life.
“The retreat was exactly what I needed,” said Jordan Gillette, youth pastor, AXIS Youth Ministry, Grace Community Church in Goshen, Indiana. “I was able to brainstorm with other youth pastors and youth leaders, which led to several ideas that I’m excited to implement. The sessions were helpful in providing valuable information on topics that were on all of our minds. Furthermore, I was able to step back from my day-to-day and evaluate how to implement new ideas into my youth ministry. It was well worth the trip!”
The retreat is planned for the same week next year (March 18-21) back at the El Caribe Resort in Daytona Beach.
