Ed Lewis, CE National’s president emeritus, has a passion for sharing Christ with others. Here are ideas that he uses when he talks with people.
WHAT IF___ you were to focus on ONE person who is not a believer by stopping at their office or home with a TAKE-OUT sandwich to just talk during lunch? In fact, you could have prayer for the food and thank God for the person. Refreshing.
WHAT IF___ you were to introduce yourself to a neighbor (keeping social distancing) and ask if they need food or help in any way? Offer to help with yard work. If it feels awkward to talk to a neighbor who has lived there for years and you have never met, just take over cookies or a candy bar or a small gift that the person might enjoy.
WHAT IF__ you told a person at work or in the neighborhood that you read an article that challenged you to talk with someone you do not always get to talk with? Tell them with a smile that you chose them. It could be a teenager, a grocery clerk, or neighbor. While social distancing, ask if they are okay during this pandemic and that you just want to offer to help them if they need anything. Ask about their work, family, and more.
WHAT IF__ you chose three people to call on the phone a couple times a week just to see if they need anything? It could be someone who is ill, alone, hating the isolation, or without work. Just hearing a voice is encouraging for some people. Of course, you could always use social media to private message them as well; just to wish them well and ask for specific ways you can pray for them.
WHAT IF__ your small group at church would did a project for people in your vicinity, especially those who are not believers? You could offer to wash windows, trim bushes, power wash a sidewalk, or plant flowers.
WHAT IF__ you were to send a video link to someone who is not a believer? The video could be your church service or a Christian movie. Encourage people to watch movies like War Room, God’s Not Dead, I Can Only Imagine, Overcomer, Indescribable by Louie Giglio, or…
WHAT IF__ you were to ask help from a non-believer? Ask them for help with understanding your computer, your phone, Zoom, or Facebook. While with them engage in warm conversations and use lots of GOD-talk. Ask about them. Ask if you could hear their story. Be a good listener and respond with interest. Then feel free to share your own story briefly and why you chose the path of life you are on. Pray for opportunities to share your faith.
We have a GOLDEN opportunity to share Christ right now. I was able to give some groceries to people this week and I am a prayer partner to a neighbor who has cancer. I call him daily.
WHAT IF__ most of the ministry of the church was outside the building?!
What if___ God used this pandemic to start a revival?!
- PRAY for your lost person by name daily.
- Make contact with that person weekly (phone call, text, social media check-in).
- Invite that person to be in contact with the Good News monthly. Invite them to a watch party with you of your church service, send them a Christian article you like, give them a Bible passage that is short that means a lot to you, or personally give them something to read. I have found a lot of help in the app from CRU called Every Student.
