Turning a Setback into a Comeback!

Operation Barnabas

We have all experienced a number of disappointments and setbacks over the last several months as we have seen plans changed, places closed, and events canceled. Operation Barnabas 2020 has needed to deal with the reality that it is just not feasible right now for our teams to serve in California and Pennsylvania/Washington DC as we had originally planned.

So, what do you do when both Operation Barnabas tour locations are not able to receive student teams, yet OB 2020 students would still love to be able to have opportunities to serve? After much prayer, wise council, and encouragement from parents and churches, OB has initiated a new plan for this summer that will allow students to serve while still following state health and safety guidelines.

Here are the new dates and plans for Operation Barnabas 2020!

  • OB 2020 will start in Winona Lake, Indiana, at the CE National campus, and this will be home base for the entire tour. Students are going to get some great chances to help others, connect with people, and be an encouragement by sharing God's love.

  • The dates for OB orientation and tour are July 2–July 14. By pushing back our starting date, it helps us fall in line with the Indiana phased guidelines for opening up the state.

  • The OB tour will emphasize opportunities to serve others in need, working through churches and community organizations we are connected to.  Though we won’t be learning and using a lot of the “traditional” pieces of OB programming, we will have opportunities to share songs and testimonies with several churches.

Please pray for Operation Barnabas 2020 as we continue to solidify our planning. OB has always been about encouragement and there has never been a better time for us to encourage people through serving, loving, and giving hope!

Momentum Youth Conference Updates

Normally this time of year our Momentum team would be very busy working on session plans, talking through ministry opportunities, and praying for registrants, but due to COVID-19 and projections for attendance this summer, we are sad to announce we will not be hosting a traditional Momentum week in July.

This was an extremely difficult decision that we've researched thoroughly and delayed making as long as possible in the hope that circumstances would make for more allowances. Momentum has been frequently communicating with the Indiana Wesleyan University Re-Opening Task Force and country/state health departments to provide the best possible safe environment on campus. However, because of the inability for youth groups to do fundraisers, the complexities of transportation, social distancing, flights, differing stages of reopening state-to-state making it hard for groups to decide if they are able to come, and uncertainties from parents, we have had to make this decision.

We are deeply disappointed not to be planning for the best week of summer as we know the impact the Lord has in the lives of students and leaders through Momentum and how it serves as a launching pad for the youth ministries that partner with us.

We are excited to be thinking towards the future and for plans to be back together for Momentum 2021. In the meantime, we will release "Best of Momentum," our staff picks of sessions over the years that we know will encourage and sharpen you in your walk with God.

We will also send out information in July pertaining to regional Momentum one day events taking place in the fall and winter!
