412 Commission Is Back From Vietnam |
The 412 Commission arrived in Goshen, Ind., about 1:30 p.m. yesterday (January 31). Although glad to be back in the States, the group is adjusting to the sub-freezing temperatures of Northern Indiana after the 90 degree days in Vietnam.
Through a quick phone call the Goshen Site Coordinator, Mike Pumphrey, says, "The trip went great. It opened up students' eyes to understand different cultures and see the need in a 3rd world country. A couple of students were challenged that God might be calling them into missions in the future." Mike and the group will put together a full report next week.
The stay in the States will only last a few weeks as the group looks forward to leaving for Israel February 20th. |

Urban Training Experience--Catch a Glimpse of Urban Ministry |

Are you interested in going into urban missions? Do you aspire to learn more about the culture of the city? Are you willing to submerse yourself for two weeks of intensive training? Then the Urban Training Experience is right for you.
The Urban Hope Training Center, located in the Kensington area of Philadelphia, Pa., was established in 1997 with the two-fold purpose of reaching the urban family through youth and children and training believers in cross-cultural urban ministry. The Urban Training Experience, or UTE, might be for you!
Every summer during the first two weeks of July, the Urban Hope Training Center offers UTE, a program designed to give young people a broad training and experience
in urban ministry. At the end of the program, each student will have done the following:
- Received an overview and training in the ministries of Urban Hope
- Participated in Urban Hope’s ministries
- Been trained in cross-cultural urban ministry
- Learned how to start conversations and build relationships
- Learned how to share the gospel with people of different backgrounds
- Received training in how to disciple new believers
- Made regular contact with people in the neighborhood to share Christ
- Visited communities in and around Philly
- Visited New York City and Metro Ministries
- Received an evaluation of experience and potential for urban ministry
The cost of this 2-week experience/evaluation is $899, which includes lodging, food, training, and travel in metropolitan
areas. To participate in UTE, registrants must be at least 18 years of age and be open to considering a cross-cultural ministry in the future.
All applications are due at UHTC by June 1, 2008 and must be accompanied by a $100 non-refundable deposit. Get a registration form. |
TNI Students Help Tutor Local Kids |

A TNI Student helps a child with his reading
Students in The National Institute's Contemporary Issues Class are getting an amazing opportunity to pour into young lives! TNI is partnering with The Salvation Army in an after-school tutoring program.
Each child that registers for the program receives three hours a week of personal mentoring/tutoring by a TNI student. This will be every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for the semester. As of now, there are about ten elementary-age students who are taking advantage of this opportunity. The Salvation Army staff is hoping to see this number grow through more promotion.
Timothy Kurtaneck, TNI Director, says, "We are so excited to see how the minds, hearts, and lives of all involved will be changed."
