Hmmm... The Decline of Born-Again Believers

In his book "The Present Future, Six Questions The Church Should Be Asking", Reggie McNeal quotes these attendance stats by generation from Thom Rainer of the Billy Graham School of Evangelism at Southern Baptist Seminary.

"'Analyzing the responses for evidence that the respondents were born-again (the evangelical definition of one's being a Christian) yielded the following results: builders (born before 1946)--65 percent; boomers (born between 1946-1964)--35 percent; busters (born between 1965-1976) 15 percent; bridgers (born between 1977-1994--4 percent.' The church is drastically losing this generation, often referred to as Generation X."

Momentum West--Learning, Then Doing

Momentum West Projects

Students going to Momentum West will have the awesome opportunity to undergo intense training on sharing Christ with various people groups. Then throughout the week they'll get to share Christ with Muslims, homeless, and other various people. Students will also participate as counselors at a WowJam event. These events are designed to love people in practical ways, then share the gospel with them.

Mike Yankoski will also be part of the learning experience for Momentum West attendees. Mike spent five months as a homeless person to better understand the challenges of this segment of the population.

Internships and Life on the Corner at Urban Hope

The internships are in full swing at the Urban Hope Training Center. Brent Saba, Director of Training at Urban Hope, reports that the group has already visited New York City, Metro Ministries, and The Brooklyn Tabernacle. All of the interns have been assigned a block to visit, children or youth ministry to focus on, three books to read, a fifteen page research project to work on, cleaning responsibilities, goals for evangelistic Bible studies, starting new house churches, and more.

The weekend the interns arrived, a group of nine from Hope Community Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, visited for Life on the Corner weekend, a time dedicated to reaching out to drug dealers and gangs around the Urban Hope neighborhood. The group of men did well on the streets and in the Cambodian neighborhood talking and praying with people.
