TNI Students' Tutoring Impacting Community

TNI Tutoring
TNI Student Tutoring a Child

Eric Wagoner was a banker in Warsaw, Ind., who felt called to full-time youth ministry. He began taking TNI classes to finish his college degree and started working for the Salvation Army in town. Eric shared with TK that he would like to begin a tutoring program to help the young students with which he works. Knowing that each TNI youth ministry class has a hands-on component, TK worked with Eric to include it in the Contemporary Issues spring semester course. Read more...

Honoring Our Faithful Church Volunteers and Staff Members

National Church Awards are designed to encourage and honor faithful servants in ministry. This is your opportunity to nominate those within your church family deserving of honor. What names come to your mind? The faithful staff member? The long-serving teacher who has volunteered for many years?

What event have you as a church undertaken that would be helpful to other churches in reaching, teaching, and releasing people for God’s glory? Be sure to pass along the forms to other individuals who can submit nominations within their specific areas of ministry. Read more and get the forms...

YouthNet Goes To The "The Big Apple"

YouthNet
YouthNet in New York City

Nine people from CE National's youth cabinet attended a long weekend in New York City. But why?

Youth workers are deeply concerned that there is a gap between those people that we serve in the church and people who will NEVER come to a church. Statistics would indicate that if all the young people in the church and all the young people in para-church organizations (Youth For Christ, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, etc.) were added together, AT BEST only 40% of youth would have anything to do with God. Urban Training Experience--Catch a Glimpse of Urban Ministry

Are you interested in going into urban missions? Do you aspire to learn more about the culture of the city? Are you willing to submerse yourself for two weeks of intensive training? Then the Urban Training Experience is right for you.

The Urban Hope Training Center, located in the Kensington area of Philadelphia, Pa., was established in 1997 with the two-fold purpose of reaching the urban family through youth and children and training believers in cross-cultural urban ministry. The Urban Training Experience, or UTE, might be for you!

Every summer during the first two weeks of July, the Urban Hope Training Center offers UTE, a program designed to give young people a broad training and experience in urban ministry. At the end of the program, each student will have done the following:

  • Received an overview and training in the ministries of Urban Hope
  • Participated in Urban Hope’s ministries
  • Been trained in cross-cultural urban ministry
  • Learned how to start conversations and build relationships
  • Learned how to share the gospel with people of different backgrounds
  • Received training in how to disciple new believers
  • Made regular contact with people in the neighborhood to share Christ
  • Visited communities in and around Philly
  • Visited New York City and Metro Ministries
  • Received an evaluation of experience and potential for urban ministry

The cost of this 2-week experience/evaluation is $899, which includes lodging, food, training, and travel in metropolitan areas. To participate in UTE, registrants must be at least 18 years of age and be open to considering a cross-cultural ministry in the future.

All applications are due at UHTC by June 1, 2008 and must be accompanied by a $100 non-refundable deposit. Get a registration form.

Wooster, Ohio, April 11
Lancaster, Penn., April 18
Rhodes Grove, Penn., May 1

Remember seeing a pump out back of an old house or farm when you were growing up…the one that you had to hand pump…the one that had to be primed before the water would come out? If you ever tried pumping one, your arm would ache and it would seem that the water would never come. But eventually the water would start flowing. It was always a welcome sight!Read more...
