Ministry Is The Focus Of The Summer

One of the core values of CE National is ministry and this summer is no exception. Operation Barnabas teams start training in June. The three domestic teams will train in Norwalk, Calif., and the Operation Barnabas International team will do training in Winona Lake, Ind. All four teams will be trained to do evangelism, encouragement, relationship building, and other forms of serving Christ in the local church.

Momentum West is very unique because it is a conference that will include three days of ministry experiences! The conference will start on Monday evening, June 23, but by Wednesday morning the entire conference will have left for various places to serve, getting their hands dirty for God. One group will go to the third-world country of Mexico and another group will be involved in the inner cities of Southern California. The conference will end on Friday afternoon/evening with sharing, Communion, a challenge, and tips for applying what was learned back home.

Momentum East will also have ministry experiences. On Saturday during the conference, July 21-26, the youth will have an opportunity to have direct, hands-on ministry experiences with the people of Dayton, Ohio, where 23% of the population is below the poverty level. On Saturday the students will distribute thousands of bags of free groceries and meet with people all over the city through a partnership with Convoy of Hope. (See related article on the ministry of Convoy of Hope.)

Both Momentum East and Momentum West will carry through with the theme "I-Care" based on Micah 6:8. Please pray with us that God will indeed allow students and adults to "act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with their God."

Did You Know There's a National Nursing Home Week?

National Nursing Home Week begins on Mother's Day, May 11, 2008 and continues through May 17, 2008.

This provides a great opportunity to consider how your church can minister to those in health care units. A group of people from CE National attended a Focus Over 50 Conference a few years ago presented by Focus on the Family. There the group learned that most people in health care units are very aware that they are at the "end of the line" in their health. This gives a wonderful opportunity for believers to share Christ with them.

How terrible it is for a person to know that his life on this earth is very short, and yet he does not have the assurance that when he dies he'll go to heaven. Why not encourage people in your congregation to "adopt" two or three people in a health care unit? By adopting them they can visit them regularly, show concern, send cards, and share Jesus' love. Take advantage of National Nursing Home Week in your church by having someone give a testimony in a Sunday School class, youth group, or on Sunday morning.

On The Road With Ed

Ed Lewis, Executive Director of CE National, will be traveling East this weekend. On Friday, he'll be at the Day Away in Lancaster, Penn. Then Ed will be joining Grace Church of Willow Valley's missions conference in Lancaster, leading a seminar on Saturday and speaking Sunday morning. On Monday, Ed will visit the Urban Hope Training Center in Philadelphia, Penn.

Next week the Children's Cabinet will be meeting in Chicago during the Conspire Conference, getting ideas for helping churches that need assistance in reaching, teaching, and releasing children to serve the Lord. Ed will be joining them.

Please pray for Ed as he travels many miles, encouraging people along the way.
